Cereals of the 80's

Whether you're fourteen or forty, you remember them all. Those boxes of cereal that you'd rush downstairs in the morning, rip the top of the box off, and dig straight to the bottom looking for that special toy inside.

Cheerios, Trix, Cocoa Puffs, Rice Crispies, Corn Flakes, this list could go on and on forever. They've been staples in children and adult cereal bowls for decades, and there's no sign of them going anywhere any time soon.

But, what about those rare boxes of cereals that we remember from our childhood? Those ones that we would curl up on the couch with as we watched our Saturday morning cartoons. The ones that came and went in what seemed like a blink of an eye.

As a special treat to The Toy Box readers, we're taking a trip down memory lane to show you some of our favorite cereals from the 80's. After all, cereal plus Saturday morning cartoons equals cartoons that 90% of were turned into toys. See how everything circles back to toys?

Those were some of our fondest cereal memories, but what about you? Drop us a line in the comments section and let us know about some of the cereals you used to curl up with that are no longer around.

  1. I didn't expect a post like this, cereal-themed :D I'm quite a fan of snacks, treats and sweets myself, so, no worries ;)

Let' not forget sometimes toys are brought along in the cereal boxes as prizes!

I'm 23 and spanish so I'm afraid I can't get along with the nostalgic mood. Too young! Here in Spain, I suppose there were old remembered cereals, but, as for my generation, things from our 90's childhood do not disappear completely and tend to come and go as seasons pass by.

  2. Don't worry, AkaTsuko. You'll get your chance to say, "Back when I was young..." It's a right of passage, and one we "older" folks here at The Toy Box love to do daily.

You absolutely hit the nail on the head with your reminder of the toys that game along in the cereal boxes. That's an unfortunate thing we don't see these days with most cereals. Sadly these days it's all about redeeming your prize via mail. Kind of kills the excitement of ripping open the box for the first time.

Glad you enjoyed the post! Thanks for reading and following our posts.

  3. Ok, after writing my previuos message I have just remembered:

"Back when I was young..." (;D) these lil fellas known as GoGos were relased within some brands of cereal boxes:

One per box... ONE per box! The whole collection consisted in near a hundred of gogos! That's a lot of breakfast if you ask me, hehe. Nowadays, I guess the "newer" generatios get released within blind bags, along with a character card.

PS: I don't own that photo, nor the little toys in it, just sayin'

  6. That was a great cereal. That would be awesome if they brought that back. Even if it was a limited edition release.
